City of Portland Workers Overwhelming Vote To Authorize Strike

PORTLAND, OR - Following numerous reported cases of illegal interference by City of Portland managers in an attempt to disrupt these employees' legally protected right to vote to strike, over 86% of District Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) members voted to authorize a strike.

“In spite of the City’s efforts to disrupt our members strike authorization vote, 91% of eligible members cast their ballots, and over 86% voted to reject the City’s last best and final offer and authorize our bargaining team to call a strike if a tentative agreement cannot be reached,” said DCTU President Rob Martineau.

While rejecting the City’s last best and final offer, mediation between the two parties will continue, with the DCTU’s bargaining team authorized to call a strike if the impasse continues.

“After nearly two years working through a global pandemic, and facing unprecedented challenges, it’s time the City recognizes the sacrifices our members make day in and day out. The City’s proposal drastically undervalues the work City employees are doing, providing essential services, to keep our communities healthy and safe” continued Martineau.
